Westport's 11th Annual Easter Walking Festival 2019

 

Date: From Friday April 19th 2019 to Monday April 22nd 2019.

 

Dust off your Boots and Spring into action. Join us for this challenge where we will ascend the  highest peak in  Connaught:

Mweelrea 814m - the highest in the province followed by

Leenane hill  in County Galway on Day 2.

 

Listed below are the options available.

 

Option 1: Hotel

Please note the rate quoted for the hotel does not include transfer for the walks and guides.

 

Option 2: Walk only Staying with friends or have a holiday home in the area?

 

Price for options 1 & 2: €35.00 per day or €65 if you participate on both days. This must be booked and paid for in advance. Bookings will not be taken on the day of the walk.  Transport has to be organised and we need to have the numbers in advance. Price includes transport and guide.

 

Itinerary:

Friday April 19th

Arrive in Westport and check into accommodation of your choice.

 

Saturday April 20th

Start time: 9.30am sharp – Bus will depart from the Octagon in Westport town centre.

Mweelrea Mountain - highest in the province at 814m.

the walk starts from the town land of Dadreen. A fairly easy uphill section takes us to the river bank and from there upwards to a col at 650m.the last 160m are over stony ground. This walk has wet and boggy ground at the start and finish.

 

Walk Details:

Ascent 814m. Distance 12k. Time 5 hours approx

travel time to the start 40 minutes.

 

Sunday April 21st.

 

Leenane Hill, Co Galway. This 4:5 hour circular walk begins on the Western Way that overlooks Killary harbour. We follow the river uphill and join the main ridge coming in from the West. Continuing onwards above and behind the village we descend on an old bog road and join the main road on the East side of Leenane.

 

Walk Details

Ascent: 730m. Distance: 13k  Time: 5:5 hours.

Travel distance to the start: 45 minutes.

please note this mountain can be wet and boggy.

 

 

Please note that the walk days are interchangeable but we will endeavor to stick to the advertised schedule. The itinerary may be changed or altered at the discretion of the guides. Weather, high winds are factors that have to be considered.

 

NB: All walkers require proper walking boots with ankle support, fleece, hat, gloves, rainwear, rain protected rucksack and a supply of water and food. You will not be allowed to participate on the hike, if in the opinion of the guided you are not properly equipped. This is for your own safety and your fellow walkers.

 

Payment of €65.00 for two days or €35 for one day must be paid by interbank transfer to book.
