Westport's 10th Annual Easter Walking Festival 2018

 

Date: From Friday March 30th 2018 to Monday April 2nd 2018.

 

Dust off your Boots and Spring into action. Join us for this challenge where we will ascend the two highest peaks in  Counties Mayo & Galway:

Mweelrea 814m - the highest in the province followed by

Binn Bhan 729m - the highest in County Galway.

 

Listed below are the options available.

 

Option 1: Hotel

Option 2: Walk only Staying with friends or have a holiday home in the area?

 

Price for options 1 & 2: €35.00 per day or €65 if you participate on both days. This must be booked and paid for in advance. Bookings will not be taken on the day of the walk.  Transport has to be organised and we need to have the numbers in advance. Price includes transport and guide.

 

Itinerary:

Friday March 30th

Arrive in Westport and check into accommodation of your choice.

 

Saturday March 31st

Start time: 9.30am sharp – Bus will depart from the Octagon in Westport town centre.

Binn Bhan is the highest peak in the 12 Bens range and also the highest in County Galway.

 

The walk starts in the Glencorbet Valley where we ascend a steep uphill section to join the main ridge coming in from Binn Charrach. The final 230m is again pretty steep before we arrive at the peak at 730m. From the summit we descend the scree slope to Maumina before exiting via Gleann Eidhneach.

 

Walk Details

Ascent: 730m. Distance: 13k  Time: 5:5 hours.

Travel distance to the start: 50 minutes.

 

Sunday April 1st

Start time: 9.30am sharp – Bus will depart from the Octagon in Westport town centre.

Mweelrea Mountain. The walk starts from the town land of Dadreen. A fairly easy uphill slope takes us to the river bank and from there upwards to a col at 650m. The last 160m are over stony ground. This walk has wet, boggy, ground at the start and finish.

 

Walk Details

Ascent: 814m. Distance: 12k. Time 5 hours.

Travel time to the start: 40 minutes.

 

 

Please note that the walk days are interchangeable but we will endeavor to stick to the advertised schedule. The itinerary may be changed or altered at the discretion of the guides. Weather, high winds are factors that have to be considered.

 

NB: All walkers require proper walking boots with ankle support, fleece, hat, gloves, rainwear, rain protected rucksack and a supply of water and food. You will not be allowed to participate on the hike, if in the opinion of the guided you are not properly equipped. This is for your own safety and your fellow walkers.

 

Payment of €65.00 for two days or €35 for one day must be paid by interbank transfer to book.
